Lincoln 6 June gig - cancelled

The gig at The Old Crowne pub in Lincoln on 6 June 2009 has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond the band's control. Sorry about that. Our next live gig will be on 4 July at Calverton Miners' Welfare as part of the Hoodstock Scooter Festival.

Pointy Boss have new drummer - Gary!

Pointy Boss is happy to report that we have recruited a new drummer - Gary - and are now hard at rehearsal on bringing Gary up to speed on the current Pointy Boss set and working up some new songs. Things are sounding really good, too!

Pointy Boss are on the look-out for a new drummer. As well as someone who *gets* our approach to punk rock music making and performance, we're looking for someone with enthusiasm and commitment, with at least a basic level of drumming competence (and ideally some in-band experience) and someone within rehearsal commuting space of Nottingham. If you think that you might fit the bill - get in touch!

Gig updates - May 2008

Couple of quick gig updates.

The 13 June 2008 gig at the Frog & Onion, has been pulled (but we'll still be playing at the venue at least a couple more times this year).

There's a new date on 31 May 2008, at a new venue for us The Black Lion, Radcliffe on Trent. This is a gig organised by Rampaging Shambles promotions, and the night will also feature GoGo Tokyo, Made for Radio and Unused Substitutes. It'll be a whole big pound on the door to get in.

We've had to cancel the 27 April appearance at the Frog & Onion, but should have details of an alternative spring date at the venue soon.

...blimey, where does the punk rock time go?

Since the last post, we've played a further nine gigs and released a new demo CD.

Live appearances have been as follows: The Frog & Onion, Nottingham (21 April 2006); The Polish Centre (18 May); The Sumac Centre (9 June); Pride, Leicester (24 June); Pride, Nottingham (30 June); back to The Sumac Centre (8 September); back to The Old Crowne, Lincoln (4 November); back to The Frog & Onion, Nottingham (10 November); and a first appearance at The Rose of England, Nottingham (23 November). This makes 10 gigs in total in 2006 - Pointy Boss' most productive year for gigs so far...

A new demo CD More Toward Seven has just been released - three tracks are available for streaming (RealAudio) and download (MP3) on the Pointy Boss web site BiG THiNG POiNT.

Lincoln gig - 8 April 2006, The Old Crowne

Ahead of the 21 April gig at the Frog and Onion in Nottingham, Pointy Boss play The Old Crowne in Lincoln on Saturday 8 April, with Keith's side-project band Plastic Jack and Cutting Edge.

A gig at the Polish Centre in Nottingham is also shaping up for May - more details as things are confirmed. We've also approached Junktion 7 in Nottingham about a possible support slot with 999 in May, but have heard nothing back as yet...

Still, a fair few Pointy live outings are now in the offing :)

New studio session

Pointy Boss returned to Unit 5 Studios in Mansfield on Sunday 12 March, to record a stack of tracks for a new demo CD release - the first time that the Pointies have been in the studio with Shel behind the kit.

A mixture of old songs (like Nothing Here's For Sale), new numbers (like Runway) and tracks from Rich's past (including the Metro Youth classic H-Bomb) were all recorded in super-quick time.

A mixing session has been booked for early April, and the results should hit the streets (as they say) later that month.

The new CD is currently without a name. Suggestions please...

Gig with The Tramadolls, Frog and Onion, 21 April

The next Pointy live outing will be on Friday 21 April at The Frog and Onion in Forest Fields with The Tramadolls.

More details to follow as they are confirmed.

We're also planning for a return to the Unit 5 Studio in Mansfield in March for a further CD recording session - the first with Shel behind the kit.

All best wishes to our blog and BiG THiNG POiNT visitors for 2006!

The first Pointy Boss rehearsal after the festive break is tomorrow night, which will get us back into the swing of things, and give us the chance to map out our cunning plan for the year ahead...

There'll be a slight delay on the issuing of the See You Later CD, as we've a bit of a printing issue at the moment which is halting the production of the sleeves.

We hope to have this cracked soon, so that the demos can begin to fly from the production line.

...for putting The Old Angel gig together, for powering through their sets, and for making the arrangements on the night so easy and hassle-free.

The crowd was small, the sound bounced around the cavernous space, and our Durham hosts were left out of pocket, but it was still a good night. If you weren't there... well, you missed it...

Things kick off from around 7pm, and there's two quid to cough up on the door.

The new four-track Pointy Boss CD See You Later will be available soon, with selected content available for 'streaming' download from the BiG THiNG POiNT site.

The recording and mixing is finished, as soon as the sleeves roll off the production line, the sounds of See You Later will hit the streets...

This recording, which took place at the Pointy favourite Unit 5 studios in Mansfield, was the last done with previous drummer Brian.

New drummer!

Pointy Boss have a new drummer - Michelle (better know as 'Shel')! She's been rehearsing with the band for around six weeks now, learning and helping to arrange the current set. Shel had her first outing with the band at the Sumac Centre gig on Friday 18 November, and did us proud. She's behind the kit again for a second gig this Sunday 27 November, at the Old Angel, Nottingham, with GimpFist and Wildcard.
